Evolution to Traditional to New Media

Electronic Age

In Chapter 2, Electronic Age is one of the topic that was included. In this period, McLuhan discussed that the explosion of the electronic age has actually created an implosion of our models perception. This is the reason that our communication process is becoming more complex than it already was.

In 1800, Thomas Alva Edison tried all kinds of experiments on electricity at a young age. Edison was able to invent a duplex telegraph which can transmit two messages, also known as telegrams, simultaneously with one another. He also worked on the phonograph as well as the development of the incandescent bulb.

However, it was Alexander Graham Bell who first got the the patent for the telephone.

In 1990, cassette recorder, that is used to record voices, were invented. This was also the one that the OFWs were using as telephones were too expensive. Betamax became popular in this age too, and the black and white television became a colored television.

Electronic Age made a great contribution in the development of media in communication.
